What INTERNET means to me......

Network of networks, simply called as internet. Although that is the definition given to the term “internet”, I suppose it is just limited only to the text books. Internet used to be a mystery in my early school days & later in my secondary school level, an ISP (According to my memory it should be LBN) provided 10 hours of internet surfing for 200 rupees. At that time it’s too much for that kind of facility. By now internet has become the fourth basic need of human apart from food, shelter & dress. Everyone, from the age of 6 to unlimited age, uses internet. But most of the users don’t know actually what internet means, even me also. They really have no need in knowing that because they might think it is useless.

In my routine, when I open a web browser such as Chrome or Firefox or even Internet Explorer in order to surf internet at first a blue page is come out. If a person who doesn’t know even a drop about internet may ask me whether the colour of internet is blue if he looks me surfing. This is not only my situation; I suppose most of us having the same trouble. The nasty blue page namely called as Facebook. Early days people have set a search engine like Google or Yahoo as their home page. But now the trend has got changed tremendously. Most of the internet users have set Facebook as their home page even some do it without their intention.

Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, or ,even now the latest, Google+ are some of the social networks can be found in the internet. Social networks basically started in order to build up the proper relationships between the known personals & start new friendships with unknown personals. But as the time passes some people became to use it as their everyday need. For some cases they seem to be addicted to these sites; they can’t even think a day when the internet is unavailable. Some don’t need food, drink or any other basic needs if they connected to internet. They just need a PC or a laptop & an internet connection; doesn’t matter whether it is dongle or mobile phone or a DSL line. If we think what made these people to think this much about those social network sites, we will definitely get the answer nothing. They have just set up their minds like that; that’s all. In other words we can say the entrance of these social network site have made people so lazy.

Facebook provides you to express your emotions, ideas, thoughts & even more- "status." There is a “like” button which opens the way to someone to enter other’s profile easily Users can add friends at first. Then they can share in their friend’s wall and tag some photos brings you to succeed to come up with “chat”. Some don’t go with that procedure; they jump up to the final procedure directly. Ultimately those things bring up with some unexpected relationships. Recently Facebook provides “video chat” after Microsoft bought Skype. This is just clearly shows an excellent business.

Twitter allows you to tweet & follow someone; they will follow you back if they wish. It gives “Followers”, “Followings”, “@Mentions”, “Retweets”, “Reply”, “Twitpick” & even more. But in the case of Twitter your status or emotions or even thoughts are limited to 140 letters. You may think how something can limit your feelings but in real it’s not a fact; that’s why most celebrities, stars, politicians, sportsmen & world recognized organizations have their own “verified” accounts. One advantage with the consideration of Facebook is no one can make your profile dumped.

With the daily improvement of social network sites Google also had to think heavily in order to save their future of internet. That’s why Google+ was born. This birth was given after a thorough study of social networks, especially Facebook. Google could identify the mistakes & some tough settings required in those previously held social networks & they came with solution to those troubles. That’s why Google hit 10 million user base within 14 days in a testing trial period. It is the fastest 10 million user achievement in social network history. Google+ users can experience “Status”, “Shares”, “Circles”, “Chat”, “Hangout” & even more. It provides search engine facility; Google & mailing facility; G-mail in the same tab & every Google services. This helps users to be more convenient with their needs. The unexpected fact is Sri Lanka is the third country which has the largest user base in Google+ a week ago. This shows that we, Sri Lankans want changes in those things only not in the serious stuffs such like politics. LOL.

All in all my opinion of internet is
It’s not the network of networks rather it is the network of social networks
The main time wasting method with ease excess
Anyone can enjoy but no one can get thorough idea of an actual internet.
