Public Transportation in SriLanka

We SriLankan most of the time prefer the bus service for our day to day transportation because of its high availability & easiness. The bus transportation is very common within the city limits & inter-provincial transportation. As many of us use the bus service without knowing the facts involved in the regulations in the public transportation. Even most of us still don't know what is the governing body of public transportation in SriLanka. Here let's discuss some points regarding the bus transportation again it should be noted that even this article doesn't contain all the facts we needed. This is a small trial & rest is on your hands to search & clear by your self & letting know to other unknowns.

► Different colour codes of naming boards.

Above figure shows the different colour codes of name boards used in inter-provincial transportation which stand for different terminologies & it should be identified by the passenger properly in order to avoid misconception between the operator/conductor & the passenger.

Yellow Background : Normal service. (Normal fare)
Blue Background : Semi Luxury Service. (Normal fare * 1.5)
Green Background : Luxury/ AC Service. (Normal fare * 2)
Purple Background : Super Luxury Service. (Normal fare * 3)

In brackets it's shown that the rates of the particular types of buses. For example let's say the normal fare for a particular journey is 100 Rupees. Then for the same journey the passenger should pay 150 Rupees for Semi Luxury service, 200 Rupees for Luxury service & 300 Rupees for Supper Luxury. Super Luxury we can say it is almost rare to find. Because the basic requirements for Super Luxury service is much higher which cannot be easily affordable by the operators.
